Pre-Purchase Buyer Form
The items below will be performed at the pre-purchase examination:
Office call: $52.00
In clinic fee.
Pre-purchase Clinical and Moving Examination: $575.00
The clinical examination begins with a comprehensive evaluation of the horse’ s respiratory, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and gastrointestinal systems. During the moving evaluation, the horse will be examined at a walk and trot on a firm surface, and lunged at the walk, trot and canter in both directions on the lunge pad. In addition, flexions of the forelimbs and hind limbs will be evaluated. Under the direction of the veterinarian, the horse may be observed under saddle; therefore, we recommend bringing tack to the pre-purchase examination as we do not have any spare tack at the clinic.Anyone who rides the horse will have to sign a waiver and must wear an ASTM approved helmet.
The CURO unit is a non-invasive technique that uses acoustic myography to identify disease of the hind proximal suspensory ligaments (PSL). Acoustic myography analyzes the pressure waves generated by moving tissues from contracting muscle and absorption of ground reaction force (GRF). The sensitive piezoelectric crystals of the device detect the pressure waves and convert them to an electrical signal, permitting analysis of muscle function or the ability of the suspensory system to dampen a GRF when the hoof impacts a firm surface. These combined parameters create an ESTi Score that gives a relative ranking of the fitness of the PSL.
Digital Radiographic Examination: $1250.00
Following the moving examination, the horse will proceed to radiographs. It is standard in our comprehensive pre-purchase examination to remove the horse’s front shoes in order to obtain the best quality radiographs of the front feet. Exceptions will need to be discussed with the veterinarian performing the examination. We do not provide a farrier on the premises, and arrangements to have the shoes replaced will need to be made elsewhere. More advanced diagnostics such as ultrasound or thermography may be indicated if swelling, thickening, or sensitivity of the tendons or ligaments is palpated.
A standard set of pre-purchase radiographs requires 32 views including: front feet/ navicular, both lateral carpi, all four fetlocks, and both hocks (this is a discounted package price-normal pricing for the same 32 views would be $1568.00). More radiographs, such as the carpi and stifles, may be indicated depending on the clinical and moving evaluation. Digital radiographs can be provided upon request on a CD format. A11 shipping charges will be at the buyer’s expense.
Additional Radiographs are priced as follows:
$52.00 per each additional view except for the following:
$430.00 Back radiographs
$430.00 Neck Radiographs
$188.00 For each Stifle
$188.00 For each Shoulder
**If radiographs accompany the horse and will be used instead of radiographs performed at our clinic, there will be a $350.00 radiographic consultation fee.
A comprehensive clinical evaluation of the horse includes:
CBC/ Chemistry blood work): $137.00
A complete blood count (CBC) is one of the most common blood tests performed to help diagnose various infections or other abnormal conditions involving inflammatory cells. The chemistry additionally provides information concerning muscle enzymes, kidney, liver, and other organ function. (Please allow 2-3 working days to get the results).
Drug Screen: $350.00-includes $70 FedEx
The drug screen bloodwork is sent to Center For Tox Services in Arizona; therefore, results are often not available for at least 5-7 working days. In addition, we do not recommend storing serum for drug screens to be performed at a later date, as the testable medications may deteriorate in the sample and not provide accurate results. There is a Fed Ex charge in addition for the drug screen. We have to ship it on ice overnight to the lab ($70.00)
Coggins Test: $75.00
A requirement unless the seller can provide our clinic with a current copy dated within the past 6 months.
Provides direct visual examination of the upper respiratory tract and helps enable diagnosis of such conditions as: laryngeal hemiplegia, arypepiglottic entrapment, pharyngeal cysts, and lymphoid hyperplasia.
Video of Moving Exam: $126.00
Please note that videos will be sent at the end of the examination. Please specify who the videos need to be sent to and the format they should be sent in. Please note that some modalities (such as email) only allow shortened clips to be sent.
Health Certificate for out of state horse: $50.00
